I can brag for a minute – I have finally finished hand quilting a quilt that was made several years ago and amazingly enough I still like it and it still looks good! So maybe the time off wasn’t so bad after all. I also have been making Schnibbles and then of course there are the Christmas/class items that have been started. I’m feeling productive!

Calgary Stampede 2010

In my next life I have decided that I am going to go around and offer to decorate TV studios, banks and shopping malls for the Stampede. I am positive that they will welcome me with open arms and of course I know what I am doing so they will have to trust me when I say “Trust me it will be good!” Yeah right! I had a hard time this year – it seems the City has lost that loving feeling when it comes to the Stampede. Can you tell I had too much time on my hands?!?!?!

On a more positive note, Congratulations to Doreen Ryning for winning not one but two ribbons this year in the Creative Living section of the Stampede. I didn’t have an opportunity to get down to the grounds but heard nothing but rave reviews about her quilts. Keep up the great work Doreen!

Schnibbles Times Two Contest

For those of you participating in this contest, just a reminder, the deadline is July 31 to have your quilts into the shop. Remember the label and the sleeve. We have the Entry Forms here at the Shop. Once they have been all received they will be put on display in the classroom for another Viewer’s Choice award. Apparently each participating Shop is only entitled to send one entry per shop.

New Fabrics

We have had two new lines of fabric arrive in the Shop. Both are Christmas – well really they have snowmen on them so they could be used well after Santa has been and gone. You will want to see them. One grouping has colours that are refreshingly bright and the second grouping is a little more country in design. Both very nice.

Also new to the Shop is a book written by our friends in Moose Jaw from the Quilt Patch entitled Tis’ the Season. With no bias on my part at all, I will say that it is a lovely book and one worth owning.

Friday Finishing School

Spend an evening with Edith and work on a project or two that you want to complete. Not only will you be happy with your work but you will enjoy the company of fellow quilters and undoubtedly a story (maybe even some laughter) or two will be shared! The class runs from 6 to 11 pm. Dates for the summer are August 13 & September 10. The cost of the class is $10. and registration is set at 14 participants.

It is our intention to have the quilt top finished in the next month or so and then we will have it on display and you can decide it you want to get a Finishing Kit or a pattern to complete the quilt as we have. September will bring a new set of blocks – different size and style. Stay tuned.

Pizza Box Challenge

Quilting 101

We have two Quilting 101 classes scheduled for the summer. This is a great opportunity for you to learn the basics of quilting while making yourself or someone you know and love a wonderful lap quilt. Our dates are Saturday and Sunday, July 24 & 25 and August 21 & 22. The class runs from 8:30 am to 5 pm both days and registration is $60. which includes the use of the cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter for the week-end. You must have a sewing machine in good working order that has a Walking Foot. Get some friends together and come for a week-end of quilting.

Happy Quilting,
